Papillary Carcinoma of Thyroid Gland in a Patient Treated with Recombinant Growth Hormone

The first successful treatment of growth hormone (GH) deficient children with GH extracted from human pituitary was introduced during late 1950's.  The subsequent availability and use of recombinant GH (rhGH) for different clinical conditions raised the question of whether this new therapeutic modality increases the risk of certain conditions such as leukemia or malignancy.  Herein, we report o...

Catch-up growth in early treated patients with growth hormone deficiency. Dutch Growth Hormone Working Group.

Catch-up growth of 26 children with growth hormone deficiency during four years of growth hormone treatment, which was started young (< 3 years), was compared with that of 16 children with coeliac disease on a gluten free diet. In children with growth hormone deficiency mean (SD) height SD score increased from -4.3 (1.8) to -1.9 (1.4) and in patients with coeliac disease from -1.8 (0.9) to -0.1...

Clinical studies with recombinant-DNA-derived methionyl human growth hormone in growth hormone deficient children.

Thirty-six children with growth hormone deficiency were treated for up to 48 months with methionyl human growth hormone (hGH) synthesised by DNA recombinant methods. The growth rate for these children increased from 3.2 +/- 1.1 cm/yr to 10.5 +/- 2.2 cm/yr (mean +/- SD). This was similar to the effect of pituitary hGH in ten GH deficient children, 3.8 +/- 1.0 to 10.1 +/- 1.1 cm/yr. Serum somatom...

Growth in height compared with advancement in skeletal maturity in patients treated with human growth hormone.

Height growth and skeletal maturation were compared in 201 patients treated for between 1 and 15 years with growth hormone (GH) supplied by the Medical Research Council. 107 patients had isolated GH-deficiency, 30 had panhypopituitarism, and 64 craniopharyngiomata. The mean rate of skeletal maturation did not differ between the first year and the total period of treatment, averaging 1 'year'/ye...
